The Data Scientist is an independent site about the mathematics behind games of chance. We write about probability, expected value and variance, and we test claims by simulation wherever we can.

How we work:

• Numbers come from maths or from code. Where we quote a simulation, we describe the rules and publish the script so the result can be reproduced.
• Sources are linked. Published figures, such as house edges, are credited to where they came from.
• No betting advice. Nearly every casino bet has a negative expected value, and we say so. Nothing here is an invitation to gamble.

The domain previously hosted an unrelated data-science blog. This site is a new, independent project and is not connected to the previous owner.
